All eight chapters of this fundamental book are devoted to the computational modeling of turbulent flows. After a short introductory chapter, Chapter 2 presents the modeling equations and formulates the problem of second-moment closure. The turbulent mean-square invariants and rates of dissipation are examined in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 introduces key approaches to the closure of second-moment equations: the pressure-containing products, triple and high-order products, the dissipative action of viscosity, and some cases where the force fields should be taken into account. Approaches to calculations of the dissipation rate of turbulence energy and mean-square temperature fluctuations are topics of Chapter 5. In Chapter 6, some modifications of closure models are inspected. Various important simplifications that are often used in calculation of particular turbulent flows are presented in Chapter 7. Here the authors demonstrate how to use eddy-viscosity models in engineering computational programs. Finally, the conventional wall functions are summarized in Chapter 8.NEWLINENEWLINE The book includes 25 pages of references. The authors focus on technical aspects of the modeling, and give only a short discussion of the nature of turbulence. But all engineering computational problems of turbulent flows are examined in detail.NEWLINENEWLINE This book may be useful to advanced graduate students, scientists and to engineers interested in the calculations of turbulent flows in confinement systems.
