The authors consider the absolute value equation \(Ax+B|x|=b\) for matrices \(A,B\in \mathbb R^{n\times n}\) and investigate its unique solvability in the case \(B=I\) and for \(A\) diagonally dominant, connected to \(M\)-matrices or being positive definite. They also give a condition for unique solvability based on an iterative form of the equation but this involves the spectral radius of the inverse of the shifted matrix \(A\).
