The theories of noetherian regular, Gorenstein, and Cohen-Macaulay rings are well-behaved and firmly established. A recent development in commutative algebra is the study of coherent regular, Gorenstein, and Cohen-Macaulay rings. The present paper surveys this development. It turns out that -- with the proper definitions and adjustments of notions like depth and systems of parameters -- coherent regular, Gorenstein, and Cohen-Macaulay rings behave much like their noetherian counterparts. The paper also discusses possible definitions of coherent complete intersection rings.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1237.13005].
