Outstanding scientist and organizer of science in Siberia (English)

This is an obituary for Academician M. M. Lavrent'ev (July 21, 1932 -- July 16, 2010) who has contributed to differential equations, inverse and ill-posed problems, tomography, computational and applied mathematics. He served as a dean of the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics at Novosibirsk State University (1979--1985) and a director of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics in Novosibirsk (1986--2002). The article contains M. M. Lavrent'ev's photo.
