The Morava stabilizer algebra is the Hopf algebra \(S(n)=\mathbb{F}_p\otimes_{BP_\ast}BP_\ast BP\otimes_{BP_\ast}\mathbb{F}_p\) associated with the Brown-Peterson spectrum \(BP\). In order to study the structure of the cohomology \(H^\ast S(n)\), it is useful to understand the cohomology of the Hopf algebra \(S(n,m)=S(n)/(t_j:\,j<m)\) introduced by \textit{D. C. Ravenel} [Complex cobordism and stable homotopy groups of spheres. 2nd ed. Providence, RI: AMS Chelsea Publishing (2004; Zbl 1073.55001)].NEWLINENEWLINEThe authors make use of the Cartan-Eilenberg spectral sequence associated to the extension \(\mathbb{F}_p[t_{n-1}]/(t^{p^n}_{n-1})\to S(n,n-1)\to S(n,n)\) to determine the cohomology \(H^ast S(n,n-1)\) for a prime \(p > 3\) and \(n > 2\). Then, the Poincaré series of \(H^\ast S(n,n-1)\) is studied as well.
