Let \(F\) be a functor from topological spaces to topological spaces; then there is a functor from vector spaces to topological spaces given by \(V \mapsto F(S^V)\), where \(S^V\) is the one-point compactification of \(V\). In suitable cases the functor \(F\) has a Taylor tower given by Goodwillie's homotopy functor calculus, and the functor \(V\mapsto F(S^V)\) has a Taylor tower given by Weiss's orthogonal calculus. In this paper the authors compare the two Taylor towers, and they show that they are equivalent when \(F\) is analytic. They also construct a commutative diagram of Quillen functors comparing the associated model categories. As an application, they show that the Weiss Taylor tower for \(BO(V)\) converges when \(V\) is a vector space of dimension at least \(2\), where \(BO(V)\) is the classifying space of the orthogonal group of \(V\).
