Spatial determinism for a free \(\mathbb Z^2\)-action (English)

In the paper [Isr. J. Math. 21, 154--158 (1975; Zbl 0325.28016)], \textit{D. S. Ornstein} and \textit{B. Weiss} showed that every aperiodic transformation is isomorphic to a bilaterally deterministic process. In the paper under review, the authors extend the idea of deterministic process to the case of a free \(\mathbb Z^2\)-action. They show that in this case there is a stronger version, namely, there is a stonger spatial determinism for \(\mathbb Z^2\)-actions: to determine the complete \(\mathbb Z^2\)-name, it suffices to know the name of a fraction of the orbit whose density can be made arbitrarily small. Moreover, for zero-entropy \(\mathbb Z^2\)-actions, they prove that there exists a partition \(\tilde{\mathcal{P}}\) such that the \(\tilde{\mathcal{P}}\)-names of an arbitrarily small one-sided cone determine the points.
