The author describes the vital role played by the Indian mathematicians in providing elements necessary for developing and enrichment of many ideas and concepts pertinent to calculus with a special reference to the Kerala school. The seeds of modern mathematical analysis were sown in Indian soil at least two to three centuries earlier to the idea of the subject in the Western world. In an article published in 1834 in Transaction of Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, a British Civil Servant C. M. Whish had pointed out that Hindus had known ideas attributed to Newton and other mathematicians much earlier. According to G. G. Joseph the beginning of modern mathematics is usually seen as European achievement but the discoveries in medieval India between fourteenth and sixteenth centuries have been ignored or forgotten. According to the author, there is an ample scope for researchers to unearth the glory of medieval Indian mathematicians.
