A new stability analysis for solving biharmonic equations by finite difference methods (English)
0 references
The authors study estimates for condition numbers, introduced by \textit{Z.-C. Li, C.-S. Chien} and \textit{H.-T. Huang} [Comput. Appl. Math. 198, No. 1, 208--235 (2007; Zbl 1104.65043)], for the finite difference solution of the biharmonic equation with mixed clamped and support boundary conditions. Upper bounds on the effective condition number and the simplest effective condition number are derived for the unit square, which provide improved stability of the method with respect to perturbations of the discretization and right-hand sides. A number of numerical experiments confirms the theoretical estimates for the condition numbers.
