The author considers the stability of a functional equation \[ F(xy)=F(x)\cdot y+H(y)\tag{1} \] being a generalization of an equation (and its stability) considered by \textit{L. Székelyhidi} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 150, No. 1, 151--158 (1990; Zbl 0708.39006)]. Here \(H: G\to E^*\) is a mapping on a discrete amenable group \(G\) with values in a dual Banach right \(G\)-module \(E^*\) and \(F: X\to E^*\) maps a right \(G\)-set \(X\) into \(E^*\). The Hyers-Ulam stability of (1) is proved, i.e., if \(f: X\to E^*\) and \(h: G\to E^*\) satisfy \[ \|f(xy)-f(x)\cdot y-h(y)\|\leq\delta,\qquad x\in X,y\in G, \] then there exist \(F,H\) satisfying (1) and close to \(f,h\) (namely \(\|F(x)-f(x)\|\leq 2\delta\) and \(\|H(y)-h(y)\|\leq\delta\) for all \(x,y\), respectively). Similar results are obtained also in the continuous case, i.e, for continuous mappings on a topological amenable group \(G\).
