The paper gives a simple result concerning partial-sums distributions: every discrete distribution with only non-zero probabilities is a partial-sums distribution and has infinitely many parent distributions. As important application it is shown that all members of the Kemp-hypergeometric family are partial-sums distributions with Poisson distributions as parent distribution. Also, the construction principle is further illustrated by some instructive examples. Some risk models in insurance are generalized and applications of partial summations in quantitative linguistics are investigated.
