Introduction to the explicit finite element method for nonlinear transient dynamics. (English)

This book is a systematic introduction to the explicit finite element method for nonlinear transient dynamics of deformable bodies. The Hamilton's variational principle and the Galerkin method are used together with the Kirchhoff-Love shell theory and the Reissner-Mindlin plate theory. The authors employ in the presentation the Belytschko-Tsay shell element, the Hughes-Liu element, the Belytschko-Leviathan element, and the Bathe-Dvorkin element. Material models of plasticity, viscoelasticity, and other nonlinear materials are used. Three-dimensional surface contact models and variational formulations for frictional dynamic contact are investigated. The results of computations show the efficiency of explicit finite element method in simulations of nonlinear transient-dynamical problem.
