In a sense, the present paper is a translation of the EPS formulation for general relativity from 1972 into modern differential geometric language. The notation ``EPS formulation for general relativity'' refers to the paper by \textit{J. Ehlers}, \textit{F. A. E. Pirani} and \textit{A. Schild} [in: General Relativity, Papers Honour J. L. Synge. 63--84 (1972; Zbl 0267.53036)]. The main result reads in short as follows. If compatible conformal and projective structures exist on the same manifold, then they define a unique Weyl geometry on that manifold.NEWLINENEWLINEFurther, the present paper shows, how this formulation works for classifying different other relativistic theories of gravitation, and it uses the distinction between time-like, space-like and light-like geodesics in space-times with several connections possessing a relativistic fluid as source.
