Cooperative binding: a multiple personality (Q292669)

The authors discuss the relation between different definitions of cooperative binding and present some examples to show differences between the concepts of cooperativity. It is shown that among the considered definitions there are not two which fully coincide. To see the relation between the definitions of cooperativity on the micro- and macrostates, the authors give examples showing that negative cooperativity on the microscopic level can produce phenomena which are assigned to positive cooperative ligand binding.
