Geometric invariant theory of the space -- a modern approach to solid geometry (English)

This article is a survey paper. Solid geometry is an old name of three dimensional Euclidian geometry and its history is long and distinguished. The isometry group is generated by translations and reflections and the invariant theory of the space is so powerful.NEWLINENEWLINEThe author introduces spherical trigonometry and invariants on the spherical geometry in Section 2, and he introduces the invariant theory of tetrahedra in Section 3. In Section 4 and 5, the author adverts the sphere packing problem and a clean-cut elementary proof of the Kepler's conjecture using the invariant theory. Here, he says that this provides a natural testing problem for the depth of understanding of solid geometry.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1291.00056].
