The Gromov width of a \(2n\)-dimensional symplectic manifold \((M,\omega)\) is defined as the upper bound of \(\pi r^2\) for all \(r>0\) for which an open ball of radius \(r>0\) in the standard symplectic space \(({\mathbb R}^{2n},\omega_0)\) symplectically embeds into \((M,\omega)\). The main result of the paper under review is an upper bound on the Gromov width of a compact homogeneous Hodge manifold \((M,\omega)\) with \(b_2(M)=1\). This result is then used for obtaining an upper bound of the Seshadri constant for an ample line bundle \(L\) on \(M\) whose first Chern class is \([\frac{1}{\pi}\omega]\).
