The authors describe a dynamical decomposition for a post-critically finite rational map admitting a combinatorial decomposition. The Riemann sphere is decomposed into two completely invariant subsets: one consists of uncountably many Jordan curve components and it is a subset of the Julia set; the other one consists of components that are pullbacks of finitely many renormalizations, together with possibly uncountably many points. The authors prove several results, and also provide examples. For instance, they show that every component of the Julia set of an exact expanding annular system is a Jordan curve. The paper also contains a renormalization result as well as a theorem dealing with the coding of the system with an induced expanding finite dendrite map. The authors also introduce a folding surgery procedure, in order to construct branched coverings from polynomials and to produce post-critically finite rational maps with wandering Jordan curves and prescribed renormalizations.
