The authors are concerned with discontinuous Galerkin (DG) solutions to a class of strongly nonlinear elliptic equations supplied with Dirichlet boundary conditions in a 2D convex polygonal domain. The two grid algorithm along with the DG method is a sort of linearization and implies the solution of a linear problem on a fine finite element space and then the solution of the original nonlinear elliptic problem on a coarser space. The authors provide error (convergence) estimates in a mesh-dependent energy norm involving DG method in order to justify the efficiency of the proposed two-grid algorithm. As a separate task they study the pointwise error estimates of the DG methods in solving the above mentioned nonlinear problems. Two genuine nonlinear examples involving the same closed-form polynomial solution, from which the first one is related to the mean curvature flow equation, are carried out in order to illustrate the performance of the two-grid method coupled with the DG scheme.
