    Let \(H\) be a separable Hilbert space, \(\kappa\in\mathbb{R}\), and \(f\in L_2(0,\infty, e^{-\kappa t} dt; H)\), and consider the Cauchy problem \[ \left( \frac{d}{dt} + A \right)^3 u(t) + \sum_{j=1}^3 A_j \frac{d^{3-j} u}{dt^{3-j}}(t) = f(t)\;, \quad t\in (0,\infty)\;, \] in \(H\) with \(u(0)=du/dt(0)=d^2u/dt^2(0)=0\). Here \(A\) is a self-adjoint positive definite operator in \(H\) and \(A_j\), \(j=1,2,3\), are linear (unbounded) operators in \(H\). Conditions on these operators are given which guarantee the existence of a strong solution in \(L_2(0,\infty, e^{-\kappa t} dt; H)\). These conditions include a positive lower spectral bound on \(A\) (of the form \(A=A^*\geq \lambda_0\mathrm {id}\) for some \(\lambda_0>0\)), the boundedness of the operators \(A_j A^{-1}\), \(j=1,2,3\), in \(H\), and a smallness constraint on their norms.
