For \(X\) a \( T_1 \) topological space and \(Y\) a metrizable space, the authors study on \(C(X,Y),\) the set of all continuous functions from \(X\) to \(Y,\) the infimal topology \(\tau_{\mathrm{inf}} \), that is the infimum of all topologies of uniform convergence \( \tau_{\mu(\rho)} \;\) associated with a metric \(\rho\) compatible with the range \(Y.\) The authors describe the structure of the infimal topology and acquire some properties by giving, as an example, necessary and sufficient conditions for \(\tau_{\mathrm{inf}}\) to have the Fréchet-Urysohn property. Essentially, the authors look for conditions in which the infimal topology is itself a topology of uniform convergence, as it happens whenever the range space \(Y\) is locally compact and second-countable. Amongst others, an example of the achieved results is: If the space \(Y\) is locally DC-connected and locally transitively mobile and, if, in addition, \(\tau_{\mathrm{inf}}\) satisfies the first axiom of countability, then \(\tau_{\mathrm{inf}} = \tau_{\mu(\rho)}\) for some metric \(\rho\) compatible with \(Y. \)
