More then 30 years ago, the Plancherel formula for homogeneous spaces of the form \(G/H\), where \(G\) is a real reductive Lie group and \(H\) is a symmetric subgroup, was obtained. In this paper the disintegration of the representation of a semisimple Lie group \(G\) on the space \(L_2(G/H_{ss})\) is investigated, where \(H_{ss}\) is a semisimple subgroup, which differs from a symmetric subgroup by a non-compact central real factor. It is done for the simplest non-symmetric subgroups \(H_{ss}\) for the case when \(H = H_{ss} \cdot Z_H\), where \(Z_H\) is a one-dimensional connected subgroup in the center of \(H\) and \(H_{ss}\) is semisimple or discrete. The spaces \(G/H_{ss}\) are fibered over non-Riemannian symmetric spaces. As the main result of this paper it is proved that as a left regular representation of \(G\) the space \(L_2(G/H_{ss})\) is isomorphic to \(L_2(G/H) \otimes L_2(Z_H)\). It is also proved that \(L_2(G/H_{ss})\) is tempered iff \(L_2(G/H)\) is tempered. Also many examples for some simple groups \(G\) are considered. In particular, several examples of non-tempered homogeneous spaces are found, some of them are new.
