Polynomials with rational generating functions and real zeros (Q302009)

The authors study the location of the roots of the polynomials \(P_m(z)\) generated by the relation \(\sum_{m=0}^{\infty} P_m(z)t^m = 1/((1-t)^n+zt^r)\) for some integers \(n\), \(r\). They show that for large \(m\) the roots of \(P_m(z)\) form a dense subset of the real axis. They conjecture that the polynomials \(P_m(z)\) are actually hyperbolic (i.e., they have only real roots) for all \(m\), not only for large \(m\).
