A Banach space \(X\) has the approximation property (AP) if for every compact subset \(K\) of \(X\) and every \(\varepsilon>0\), there exists a finite rank operator \(S\) on \(X\) such that \(\| Sx -x\|<\varepsilon\) for all \(x\in K\). If \(S\) can be chosen with \(\| S\|\leq\lambda\), \(1\leq\lambda<\infty\), then \(X\) has the \(\lambda\)-bounded approximation property (BAP). A famous open problem that goes back to Grothendieck is whether the AP and the \(1\)-BAP are equivalent for dual spaces. It is known that these properties are equivalent for separable dual spaces. \textit{K. Y. Lee} [Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 52, No. 1, 69--83 (2015; Zbl 1319.46015)] introduced the notion of separable weak \(\lambda\)-BAP for a Banach space \(X\); that is, if for every separable \(Y\) and every bounded linear operator \(T: Y \to X\) there exists a net \((S_\alpha)\) of finite rank operators on \(X\) such that \(S_\alpha \to I_X\), the identity operator on \(X\), is uniformly on compact subsets of \(X\) and \(\sup_\alpha\| S_\alpha T\|\leq\| T\|\). It is clear that for separable spaces the separable weak \(\lambda\)-BAP and the \(\lambda\)-BAP are equivalent. In the paper under review, it is shown that for all Banach spaces \(X\) and all \(1\leq\lambda<\infty\), \(X\) has the separable weak \(\lambda\)-BAP if and only if \(X\) has the \(\lambda\)-BAP. The paper ends with a question: Let \(P_\lambda\) be a property on the class of all Banach spaces which is equivalent to the \(\lambda\)-BAP on all separable spaces. Is \(P_\lambda\) equivalent to the \(\lambda\)-BAP?
