    A diffeomorphism \(f:M\to M\) of a closed manifolds \(M\) is said to be {partially hyperbolic} if the tangent bundle \(TM\) splits into three invariant sub-bundles, \(TM=E^s\oplus E^c\oplus E^u\), such that for any \(x\in M\): 1) \(\| Tf|_{E^s}\| <1\) , 2) \(\| Tf^{-1}|_{E^u}\| <1\) , 3) For any unit vector \(\nu^\sigma\in E_x^\sigma \;(\sigma = s,c,u)\) there holds \(\| T_xfv^s\| < \| T_xfv^c\| < \| T_xfv^u\| , \) for some Riemannian metric. The diffeomorphism \(f\) is then said to be {coherent} if there exist \(f\)-invariant foliations tangent to \(E^s\oplus E^c\) and to \(E^u\oplus E^c\). In this paper the authors give an example of a non-dynamically coherent hyperbolic diffeomorphism with one-dimensional center bundle \(E^c\). The existence of such an example solves an open problem stated in [\textit{M. I. Brin} and \textit{Ya. B. Pesin}, Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 38, 170--212 (1974; Zbl 0304.58017)].
