The authors provide two algorithms for the solution of delay differential equations based on a generalized Laguerre approximation with nonnegative integer. In contrast to the spectral collocation method these algorithms have a high sparsity in the matrices. The use of generalized Laguerre polynomials furthermore allows a simplified analysis and error estimates. The algorithms are illustrated by means of several examples indicating high accuracy and stability over long integration intervals.
