Any vector space \(V\) of dimension \(r\) over \(F_{q^t}\) corresponds to a vector space of dimension \(rt\) over \(F_q\). This connection gives a bijection of vectors called a vector field reduction map. In this paper, the author gives a foundation for the interplay between field reductions for finite projective spaces, the general semi-linear groups acting on the defining vector spaces and the projective semi-linear groups. In this setting, the author reproves a theorem of \textit{R. H. Dye} [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. (4) 158, 33--50 (1991; Zbl 0742.20004)] on the stabiliser of a Desarguesian spread, integrates the study of Singer cycles to prove a result of \textit{K. Drudge} [Electron. J. Comb. 9, No. 1, Research paper R15, 10 p. (2002; Zbl 0998.20003)] and gives a new direct proof that a Desarguesian spread has a unique Desarguesian subspread. Additionally, the embedding of \(\mathrm{PGL}(r,q^t)\) in \(\mathrm{PGL}(rt,q)\) is studied to clear up misconceptions in the literature.
