Let \(f:(\mathbb C^n,0)\rightarrow(\mathbb C,0)\) be the germ of a holomorphic function, \(\sum_{\nu\in\mathbb N^n}a_{\nu}z^{\nu}\) its Taylor expansion and \(\mathrm{Supp }f=\{\nu\in\mathbb N^n:a_{\nu}\neq 0\}\). The paper deals with the problem of finding effective criteria for \(f\) to have an isolated critical point at \(0\). For a given \(M\subset\mathbb N^n\), \textit{A. G. Kouchnirenko} in [Usp. Mat. Nauk 32, No. 3 (195), 169- 170 (1977; Zbl 0363.32001)] gave a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of \(M\) for the existence of \(f\) with an isolated critical point at \(0\) such that \(\mathrm{Supp }f\subset M\). The authors prove that in the class of non-degenerate functions the Kouchnirenko condition for \(\mathrm{Supp }f\) is necessary and sufficient for a given \(f\) to have an isolated critical point at \(0\). As a corollary they obtain the Kouchnirenko theorem on equality of Milnor and Newton numbers of a non-degenerate isolated singularity in non-convenient case.
