In this paper, a model described by ordinary differential equation is built for modelling malaria infection. There is a transcritical bifurcation at \(R_0=1\), where \(R_0\) is the basic reproductive number. For some sets of parameter values, this bifurcation can be backward (subcritical). A detailed bifurcation is carried out with the mosquito biting rate as the bifurcation parameter. Numerical simulations are also provided to illustrate the effects of the mosquito biting rate, relative attractiveness of infectious humans, the relative biting frequency of exposed mosquitoes and the relative biting frequency of infectious mosquitoes on \(R_0\), and the prevalences of infectious mosquitoes and infectious humans.
