Solvability of problems with degeneration: imbibition of fluid in a porous medium (Q311186)

The author considers an initial boundary value problem with degeneration, which models the motion of immiscible fluids in porous media. A class of self-similar solutions is studied with degeneration on the movable boundary and on the entry into the porous layer. By analyzing the properties of a nonlinear operator equation, the author shows the existence and uniqueness of the classical solution to the original problem.
