This paper is a continuation of \textit{H. Simmons} [Algebra Univers. 64, No. 3--4, 349--377 (2010; Zbl 1216.06005)], somehow also influenced by the book [\textit{J. S. Golan}, Decomposition and dimension in module categories. New York, NY - Basel: Marcel Dekker, Inc (1977; Zbl 0365.16012)]. In the same setting, a general dimension theory is developed. From the Introduction: ``Section 2 gives the general background necessary for most of the paper. In Section 3, we develop the general setting of allocations and we introduce the concept of \textit{aspect} for complete modular upper-continuous lattices. We also investigate some properties and relations with allocations. Section 4 is an account based on some results of the above mentioned paper with some generalizations. Section 5 describes the notion of dimension for complete modular upper-continuous lattices. We prove that this notion is exactly the analogue for module categories via filtrations of torsion theories. In Section 6, we prove that the concept of quasi-dimension function in a module category is intrinsically linked with the concept of aspect for the lattice of submodules of a given module \(M\).''
