This paper shows how combinatorial structures relate to integrable hierarchies by demonstrating that the generating functions for several combinatorial structures with respect to specific statistics arise in the theory of integrable equations. Specific structures that are discussed are set partitions, natural growth sequences, B-type set partitions, nonoverlapping and atomic set partitions.
