The surprisingly simple idea of this paper is to restrict a Siegel modular form \(f\) to a copy of \( D={\mathfrak H}_r\times {\mathfrak H}_{g-r}\) inside the Siegel upper half-plane \({\mathfrak H}_g\), and interpret the coefficients of the expansion in the normal bundle as vector-valued Siegel modular forms. This works best when \(f\) vanishes to moderately high order along \(D\), which is frequently the case. Since this is such a simple idea there is not very much hard theoretical content in the paper. Rather it consists of examples where this programme can be carried out successfully and yields interesting results. Section~1 of the paper explains this and Section~2 does the small amount of work needed to establish that the method does indeed work, Section~4 simply tabulates some dimensions, Sections~10 and 11 address the actions of Hecke operators, and the other sections consist of examples that the authors (and the reviewer) find interesting. The paper is short and clear enough for that to be a sufficient description: for more details, see the paper. A notable feature is the frequent appearance of the ``siblings of \(\Delta\)'', vector-valued cusp forms of particularly low weight. The methods of this paper provide a quick and straightforward method of computing these.
