Put \(H=L^2(\Omega)\), where \(\Omega\) is a non-empty open set in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Let \(V\) be a closed subspace of \(H^1(\Omega)\) that contains \(H^1_0(\Omega)\), and let \(\underline a(t,v,w)= (A(t,x)\nabla v(x),\nabla w(x))_{L^2(\Omega)}\) be a non-autonomous form inducing an elliptic operator in divergence form \(U(t)\) with either Dirichlet, Neumann, or mixed boundary conditions. The authors deal with the Cauchy problem \[ u'(t)+ U(t) u(t)= f(t),\quad u(0)= 0.\tag{1} \] Under a square-integrated version of the Lipschitz condition with respect to the time variable \(t\), imposed on the bounded measurable function \(A(t,x)\), the authors prove that \(\underline a\) has maximal regularity in \(L^2\). More precisely, for each \(f\in L^2(0,T;H)\) the unique solution \(u\in H^1(0,T,V^*)\cap L^2(0,T;V)\) of (1) belongs to the class \(H^1(0,T;H)\cap H^{1/2}(0,T;V)\).
