The main result of this paper gives the following extension of the Bennett-Carl inequalities: if \(X\) and \(Y\) are Banach spaces and \(V:X \to Y\) is \(1\)-summing, then for \(1 \leq p \leq q \leq 2\) and \(\frac{1}{s} = \frac{1}{p} - \frac{1}{q} + \frac{1}{2}\), the operator \(M_{V} : \ell_{p}(X) \to \ell_{q}(Y)\) is \((s,1)\)-summing (with \(\ell_{r}(Z)\) denoting the space of absolutely \(r\)-summing sequences in \(Z\)) and \(M_{V} \big((x_{n})_{n} \big) = (Vx_{n})_{n}\). The result follows as a consequence of an analogous, more general theorem for sequences of spaces and of operators. The proof follows essentially the same structure as the proof of \textit{B.\,Carl} [Math. Nachr. 63, 353--360 (1974; Zbl 0292.47019)] of the original inequalities. As key tool for the proof, and of independent interest, is the following extension of Grothendieck's theorem: if \(V:X \to Y\) is \(1\)-summing, then \(M_{V} : \ell_{1}[X] \to \ell_{2}(Y)\) is \(1\)-summing (with \(\ell_{1}[X]\) denoting the space of unconditionally summing sequences in \(X\)).
