This paper gives examples of dessins d'enfants that are regular (in the sense that the corresponding extension of function fields is Galois) but whose field of moduli is not abelian. The first example of such a dessin is the regular closure of a dessin on the elliptic curve \(y^2 = x (x - 1) (x - \sqrt[3]{2})\) studied in [\textit{J. Wolfart}, in: Elementare und analytische Zahlentheorie. Tagungsband. Stuttgart: Franz Steiner Verlag. 313--345 (2006; Zbl 1214.11079)]. This regular closure has degree \(576\) and genus \(145\), and is shown to have field of moduli \(\mathbb{Q} (\sqrt[3]{2})\). The author then studies the quotient of this regular dessin by its center, which has degree \(288\) and genus \(61\), in meticulous detail. In a tour de force involving a considerable amount of group-theoretic and computational cleverness, he manages to give an explicit description of the extension of function fields corresponding to this dessin. It is also proved that this quotient dessin again has field of moduli \(\mathbb{Q} (\sqrt[3]{2})\), and using the classification of maximal triangle groups, the same field is shown to be the field of moduli of the quasi-platonic curve on which this dessin lives. The author concludes his article by showing that two dessins in the literature also have non-Galois fields of moduli. One of these, the map called \(U_{8,9}^{\text{gen}}\) in [\textit{D. Roberts}, ``Chebyshev covers and exceptional number fields'', (to appear)], has the property that its field of moduli is a degree \(34\) extension of \(\mathbb{Q}\) with Galois group \(S_{34}\).
