    \textit{H. B. Domecq} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 275, No. 2, 512--520 (2002; Zbl 1027.46038)] proved a theorem (Theorem 2) which has a gap. In this paper, the author remedies that gap by providing a correct proof. Here \(X\) is Banach space, \(S\) is a semigroup, \(\ell_{\infty}(S, X)\) contains all bounded \(X\)-valued functions on \(S\) and \(C \geq 1\). An \(X\)-valued invariant \(C\)-mean on \(S\) is a bounded linear operator \(M: \ell_{\infty}(S, X) \to X\) of norm at most \(C\) such that (i) \(M( 1 \otimes x)=x\) \(\text{for all }x \in X\), (ii) \(M(f) =M( _{s} f) = M( f_{s} )\), where \( _{s} f(t)=f(st)\) and \( f_{s}(t)=f(ts)\) for every \(s, t\). The main results proved are: I. The following statements are equivalent. {\parindent=0.7cm\begin{itemize}\item[(i)] \(X\) is complemented in \(X^{**}\) by a projection of norm at most \(C\); \item[(ii)] for every amenable semigroup \(S\) there exists an \(X\)-valued invariant \(C\)-mean on \(S\); \item[(iii)] for every commutative semigroup \(S\) of cardinality \(| X^{**} |\) there exists an \(X\)-valued invariant \(C\)-mean on \(S\). \end{itemize}} II. Let \( \lambda \leq d(X)\) (where \(d(X)\) is the density of \(X\)) be a cardinal number. Assume that for every subspace \(Y \subset X\) with \(d(Y) \leq \lambda\) there exists a complemented subspace \(Z_{Y} \subset X\) containing \(Y\) which is also complemented in \(Z^{**}\) by a projection of norm at most \(C\). Assume further that the assignment \(Y \to Z_{Y}\) is inclusion-preserving. Then for every amenable semigroup \(S\) with cardinality at most \(\lambda \), there exists an \(X\)-valued invariant \(C\)-mean on \(S\). A corollary is obtained from these results and some additional remarks are made.
