The authors consider the model formed by two identical beams of Timoshenko type. These are clamped together on top of each other, but allowing for a longitudinal movement between the layers. So we have a structure subject to transversal and rotational vibrations with an interfacial slip. The system becomes stable either by a frictional damping acting on the transverse displacement or by a viscoelastic damping. In both cases explicit computations are given to prove that the energy of the system is decreasing and uniformly bounded. Moreover, an equivalent functional satisfying some differential inequality is used to show exponential decay. The equivalence between the two functionals results from the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and the Poincaré inequality.
