The homogeneous approximation property (HAP) has been introduced in order to describe the locality of Gabor expansions in the Hilbert space \(L^2(R^d)\). In this manuscript the HAP is established for families of modulation spaces. Instead of the more recent theory of localized frames [\textit{K. Gröchenig }, J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 10, No. 2, 105--132 (2004; Zbl 1055.42018)] which relies on Wiener pairs of Banach algebras of matrices, the approach is based on the constructive principles established in [\textit{H.G. Feichtinger} and \textit{K. Gröchenig}, J. Funct. Anal. 86, No. 2, 307--340 (1989; Zbl 0619.46011); Monatsh. Math. 108, No. 2--3, 129--148 (1989; Zbl 0713.43004)] and [\textit{K. Gröchenig}, Monatsh. Math. 112, No. 1, 1--41 (1991; Zbl 0736.42022)], using the fact that generalized modulation spaces are coorbit spaces with respect to the Schrödinger representation of the Heisenberg group (cf. [\textit{H.G. Feichtinger} and \textit{K. Gröchenig}, in: Wavelets -- a tutorial in theory and applications. Boston: Academic Press. 359--397 (1992; Zbl 0744.00020)]). For the (non-canonical) dual frames obtained constructively in this way the HAP property is verified.
