The purpose of this paper is to prove that the square of the critical Ising model partition function is equal, up to a multiplicative constant, to the partition function of critical spanning trees with some suitable boundary conditions. The basic tool to obtain this result is the isoradial graph on which the critical Ising model is defined. One defines a weight function on the edges of this graph, and one comes across the spanning trees critical weight function of Kenyon.
