Varieties of bands (idempotent semigroups) are considered from the angle of the class of their endomorphism monoids. The main result is the following theorem: Theorem. Every non-trivial variety \(\mathbb V\) has a proper class \(\mathrm{Gen}(\mathbb V)\) of non-isomorphic bands, not contained in any proper subvariety \(\mathbb W\) of \(\mathbb V\). For every \(B\in \mathrm{Gen}(\mathbb V)\), \(B\) generates the variety \(\mathbb V\) and for an arbitrary band \(B'\) in the variety of all bands allowing an isomorphism \(\phi :\operatorname{End}(B) \to \operatorname{End}(B')\), the induced bijection \(\tilde{\phi }: B\to B'\) is either an endomorphism between \(B\) and \(B'\) or between \(B^{\mathrm{op}}\) and \(B'\). Here, \(B^{\mathrm{op}}\) is the opposite band to \(B\).
