      This paper provides a detailed exposition of a numerical method for the computation of finite dimensional compact invariant sets of infinite dimensional dynamical systems. By employing embedding results, the authors extend the subdivision technique [\textit{M. Dellnitz} and \textit{A. Hohmann}, Numer. Math. 75, No. 3, 293--317 (1997; Zbl 0883.65060)] for the computation of such objects of finite dimensional dynamical systems to the infinite dimensional case. The general approach and its applicability are illustrated for the case of differential equations with constant delay. In particular, three substantial numerical examples, a modification of Wright's equation, the Arneodo system with delay, and the Mackey-Glass equation, are considered in detail.
