Projection operators nearly orthogonal to their symmetries (Q333872)

The author considers a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) endowed with a symmetry \(\alpha\). Fixing a projection \(e\in A\) such that \(\| e\alpha(e)\|<\xi\), the author proves the existence of a projection \(q\) in the \(C^*\)-algebra generated by \(e,\,\alpha(e)\) such that \(q\alpha(q)=0\), and \(\| e-q\|\leq 2^{-1}\| e\alpha(e)\|+ 4\| e\alpha(e)\|^2\), where \(\xi\) is a constant \(\approx9/20\).
