      Denote by \(\mathcal C\) the variety of all commutative and multiplicatively idempotent semirings \((S,+,\cdot)\) with absorbing zero \(0\) and identity \(1\), and by \(\mathcal B\) the subvariety of \(\mathcal C\) defined by the additional equation \(1+x+x=1\). It is known that the only subdirectly irreducible members of \(\mathcal B\) are the two-element Boolean ring and the two-element lattice. The situation in \(\mathcal C\) is totally different. By constructing the corresponding examples, the authors obtain the following results. {\parindent=0.8cm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] For every integer \(n>1\), there exist at least two non-isomorphic subdirectly irreducible semirings of cardinality \(n\) in \(\mathcal C\). \item[(ii)] For every integer \(m > 1\), there exist at least three non-isomorphic subdirectly irreducible semirings of cardinality \(2^m + 1\) in \(\mathcal C\). \item [(iii)] For every infinite cardinal \(\alpha\), there exist at least \(2^\alpha\) non-isomorphic subdirectly irreducible members of cardinality \(\alpha\) in \(\mathcal C\). \end{itemize}}
