The reviewed book deals with stability and performance analysis of nonlinear control systems under economic model predictive control (EMPC). Special attention is devoted to the study of the computational efficiency of EMPC schemes and their applications in control of chemical processes. Prior the rigorous presentation of the original results on EMPC the authors provide a concise overview of the fundamentals of stability theory and stabilization techniques for nonlinear systems, nonlinear and dynamic optimization methods, and background on EMPC scheme. The main part of the book develops Lyapunov-based EMPC methods that address finite-time and infinite-time closed-loop stability of the system and economic performance of the controller. The incorporation of the EMPC with other control techniques is achieved by developing a two-layer dynamic economic process optimization and feedback control frameworks. Finally, the issues of computational efficiency and real-time implementation of the EMPC are addressed. Every chapter of the book is supplemented with the applications of the introduced techniques to particular chemical process examples. Such organization of the book builds a bridge between the theory and practice and provides an excellent balance between theoretical results and their application-specific implementation.
