    Let \(T_{\Phi}: L^{2}(\mathbb{T})\to H^{2}(\mathbb{D})\) be the Toeplitz operator where \(\Phi\) has the form \(\Phi(z)=p\biggl(\dfrac{1}{z}\biggl)+\varphi(z)\), \(p\) is a polynomial and \(\varphi\in H^{\infty}(\mathbb{D})\). The authors investigate whether the operator \(T_{\Phi}\) is hypercyclic. They use basic tools, Mergelyan's theorem and the Godefroy-Shapiro criterion for hypercyclicity. Their main result is the following. Theorem. Let \(T_{\Phi}\) be as described above and let \(N\geq 1\) be the degree of the polynomial \(p\). Then: (1) If \(T_{\Phi}\) is hypercyclic, then (a) the function \(\Phi\) is \(N\)-valent in \(\mathbb{D}\smallsetminus\{0\}\); (b) \(\overline{\mathbb{D}}\cap (\mathbb{C}\smallsetminus\Phi(\mathbb{D},N))\neq\emptyset\) and \(\hat{\mathbb{D}}\cap (\mathbb{C}\smallsetminus \Phi(\mathbb{D},N))\neq \emptyset\). (2) If the following two conditions \((a)^\prime\) and \((b)^\prime\) hold, then \(T_{\Phi}\) is hypercyclic. \((a)^\prime\) \(\varphi\in A(\overline{\mathbb{D}})\) and for all \(w\in \Phi(\overline{\mathbb{D}}\smallsetminus\{0\})\), the equation \(\Phi(\mathbb{D})=w\) has exactly \(N\) solutions in \(\overline{\mathbb{D}}\smallsetminus\{0\}\). \((b)^\prime\) \(\mathbb{D}\cap (\mathbb{C}\smallsetminus\Phi(\mathbb{D},N))\neq\emptyset\) and \(\hat{\mathbb{D}}\cap (\mathbb{C}\smallsetminus \Phi(\mathbb{D},N))\neq \emptyset\). Note that, in the above, \[ \Phi(\mathbb{D},N) =\{w\in\mathbb{C}: \text{ the equation } \Phi(z)=w \;\text{ has exactly } N \text{ solutions in } \mathbb{D}\}. \]
