In this paper, the author describes some geometric aspects of the Hitchin fibration under two degenerations. The latter was defined in the paper with \textit{R. Mazzeo} et al. [Duke Math. J. 165, No. 12, 2227--2271 (2016; Zbl 1352.53018)]. Among other results, the author proves that if \(\Phi\) is a smooth Higgs field on the smooth family \(\Sigma_{R}\) of Riemann surfaces such that \(\det\Phi=q\), then there exists a limiting Higgs field \(\Phi_{\infty}\) of the same determinant \(q\), and for any such \(\Phi_{\infty}\) the line bundles \(L_{\Phi}\) and \(L_{\Phi_{\infty}}\) are isomorphic as complex vector bundles \(\Sigma_{R}\setminus(\det \Phi)^{-1}(0)\).
