The authors study the spectrum and its approximation for Sturm-Liouville problems with eigendependent boundary conditions and one singular endpoint. Already, the approximation of spectra of singular Sturm-Liouville problems by the spectra of regular Sturm-Liouville problems was carried out by Bailey, Everitt, Weidmann and Zettl in 1993 and by Everitt, Marletta and Zettl in 2001. In contrast to these two papers, the present paper considers singular Sturm-Liouville problems with eigendependent boundary conditions (i.e., boundary conditions which depend on the eigenvalue parameter). The main approach is based on the idea of using regular approximations formed by truncating the underlying interval away from the singular endpoint to approximate the spectrum of the singular problem. The notions of strong resolvent convergence and norm resolvent convergence play critical roles; it is well-known that convergence in either sense implies certain convergence properties of the corresponding spectra.
