Relying on previous work [\textit{N. Ilten} and \textit{R. Vollmert}, J. Algebr. Geom. 21, No. 3, 531--562 (2012; Zbl 1244.14044)], the author gives a criterion for two toric varieties to be fibers of a flat family over \(\mathbb{P}^1\). As an application, special birational transformations of \((\mathbb{C}^*)^n\) mapping a Laurent polynomial to another one induce deformations between the toric varieties associated to these Laurent polynomials. This answers a question of Galkin and Usnich.
