      The author studies the system of ordinary integro-differential equations NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\begin{cases} \lambda\ddot\varphi(t)+\dot\varphi(t)+\varphi(t)+ \int^t_0m(\varphi(t-s))\dot\varphi(s)ds=f(t),\\ \varphi(0)=\varphi_0,\\ \dot\varphi(0)=\varphi_1,\end{cases} \tag{1}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(t\in[0,T]\), \(T>0\), \(\lambda>0\), \(\varphi:[0,T]\to \mathbb R^d\), \(d\in N\), \(m\) is the kernel \(\mathbb R^d \to \mathbb R^{d\times d}\), \(f\in C^0([0,+\infty),\mathbb R^d)\), \(\varphi_0\in \mathbb R^d\), \(\varphi_1\in \mathbb R^d\). The author proves:NEWLINENEWLINE(i) If \(m\in C^1(\mathbb R^2,\mathbb R^{d \times d})\) then \(\forall(\varphi_0,\varphi_1)\in \mathbb R^d\times \mathbb R^d~\exists T>0~\exists\varphi\in C^2([0,T],\mathbb R^d)\), the unique solution of (1). If \(\exists c>0~\forall(x,y)\in \mathbb R^n\times \mathbb R^n \quad |m(x)y|\leq c(1+|x|)|y|\) holds, then \(T\) is arbitrary.NEWLINENEWLINE (ii) If \(m\in C^0(\mathbb R^d,\mathbb R^{d\times d})\) is locally Lipschitz continuous, then \(\forall T>0~\forall(\varphi_0, \varphi_1)\in \mathbb R^n\times \mathbb R^n~\forall f\in C^0([0,T],\mathbb R^d)~\exists\varphi \in C^2([0,T],\mathbb R^d)\), a solution of (1). The author studies the equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINEx(t)=\psi(t)x_0+\psi(t)\int^t_0\psi(-s)\int^s_0M(s-r)x(r)dr\,ds+\psi(t) \int^t_0\psi(-s)f(s)ds,\tag{2}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(x\in C^0([0,+\infty),\mathbb R^\ell)\), \(\ell \in N\), is a solution of (2), \(\psi\in C^0(\mathbb R,\mathbb R^{\ell\times\ell})\) and \(M\in C^0([0,+\infty),\mathbb R^{\ell\times\ell})\), and suppose NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\begin{multlined} \exists \alpha>1~\exists v_1>0~\exists k_1>0~\forall(x,z)\in \mathbb R^d\times \mathbb R^d,~|z|\leq|x_0|+k_1~\forall t\in \mathbb R\\ |m(z)x|\leq v_1|z|^\alpha|z|\wedge |\int^t_0\psi(-s)F(s)ds|\leq k_1,\end{multlined}\tag{3}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(x_0=x(0)= (\varphi_0,\varphi_1)\), \(F(t)=(0,f(t))\), \(t\in \mathbb R\). Then if \(m\in C^1(\mathbb R^n, \mathbb R^{n\times n})\) and (3) holds, then \(\forall(\varphi_0,\varphi_1)\in \mathbb R^n\times \mathbb R^n~\forall f\in C^0([0,+\infty),\mathbb R^n)\)~ \(\exists\varphi\in C^2([0,+\infty),\mathbb R^n)\), a unique global solution of (1).NEWLINENEWLINEThe author studies also the asymptotic behaviour of the solution for the partial integro-differential equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\begin{cases} \lambda u_{tt}(t,x)+u_t(t,x)+ u(t,x)-\Delta u(t,x)+\int^t_0m(u(t-s,x))u_s(s,x)ds=f(t,x),\\ u(0,x)=u_0 (x),\\ u_t(0,x)=u_1(x),\end{cases}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE for \(t\in (0,T]\), \(x\in \mathbb R^d\), and some kernels.
