Since the introduction of a new special function by G. M. Mittag-Leffler in 1905, the question of the distribution of its zeroes has been of interest for many generations of pure and applied mathematicians. The recent growth of this interest is due to the involvement of this function into solutions of fractional integral and differential equations. Despite the fact that this function is given by a very simple formula, many questions about its behaviour are still far from completely answered, the distribution of its zeroes is one of these questions. In 2011, the well-known experts in complex analysis, A. Yu. Popov and A. M. Sedletskii, published a brilliant survey on the current state in this branch of analysis (in Russian). This book is an English translation of that survey. The main questions of the discussion are the asymptotic behaviour of the zeroes of the Mittag-Leffler function, the determination of the values of the parameters for which there are real zeroes (or no real zeroes) of the Mittag-Leffler function, non-asymptotic properties of the zeroes, the zeroes of Laplace transforms and confluent hypergeometric functions. Mainly the results of the authors are presented, but also a review of the results of other authors is given. The authors develop very deep analytical techniques which are sure to find application in related problems of analysis.
